‘No,’ Eric said softly, ‘We’ve been members of the same family. We haven’t been brothers in years.’
In a nutshell

Years ago, Nora Bridge walked out on her family, leaving her two daughters behind. She became a famous talk show host and agony aunt columnist known for her family centric advice. Her youngest daughter Ruby, a struggling comedian, uses her mother as fodder for her sets, refusing to have any contact with her.
When a secret is unearthed from Nora’s past, the new world she’s created threatens to crumble. Following a serious accident, a tabloid offers Ruby a handsome payout if she’ll write a tell all about her mother. Ruby returns home, to a mother she hasn’t spoken to in over a decade and the small town she grew up in filled with the ghosts of days past.
Book Club Notes

Summer Island is a book that will have you hooked and teary eyed, while simultaneously feeling like you’re getting gems of life advice. In other words, it’s what you’d expect from a Kirstin Hannah novel. She has a magnificent way of weaving together an emotional story, while casually dropping wisdom that goes beyond her fictional characters. It is utterly absorbing.
