‘D’Angelo followed. ‘Eh, listen. Serious. Why you helping?’ ‘He’s my friend,’ Edward said at the door.  ‘You’re not friends. Smell you a mile off. The difference between me and you is: you want to be like them. And I definitely don’t want to be like you.’

In a nutshell

Nutreats_Tag_Medium_Blue

Edward comes from a working class family and a background he is desperate to shed. When he befriends Stanza and Robert in university, he finds himself in a world he desperately wants to be a part of, but can’t afford and doesn’t belong. In an attempt to fit in, he caters to his friends’ whims – fetching dry-cleaning, fixing things, fetching things.

When he discovers that Stanza and Robert are an item, he is pushed too far. His unrequited love for Stanza has him pushing the limits of what he will do for them, and to them.

Book Club Notes

The Kellerby Code is one of those books you pick up and don’t put down till the last page. It’s an easy, dark and twisted read that feels like watching someone’s life spiral out of control. Trainwrecks are hard to turn away from. It reminded me of the Netflix show Fool Me Once – what is it about wealthy, British families and dark, dirty secrets?
